Kawann Arcell Short (born February 2, 1989) is an American football defensive tackle for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). Short played college football for Purdue University. The Carolina Panthers picked him in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Short was born in East Chicago, Indiana. He went to Central High School in East Chicago. There he was a two-sport athlete playing both football and basketball. He was a high school teammate of E'Twaun Moore during basketball season, and the two lead the Cardinals to the Indiana class 4A state title in 2007.

Short committed to Purdue University on April 13, 2007. He was not heavily recruited as he did not land a scholarship offer from any other Football Bowl Subdivision schools.

Short attended Purdue University, where he played for the Purdue Boilermakers football team from 2008 to 2012. He was a first-team All-Big Ten Conference selection in 2011 and 2012, and received second-team All-American honors from the Associated Press in 2012.
