Superbowl XLII Patriots VS Giants

RECAP Super Bowl XLII

Teams are set, Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Seattle Seahawks.

Pittsburgh may have won the Superbowl today but the biggest play of this Superbowl victory actually took place three weeks ago when Ben Roethlisberger made the game saving tackle on the Indianapolis Colt's Nick Harper during a recovered fumble. The Divisional game looked to be over when Jerome Bettis made a rare fumble on the Indianapolis two yard line with only 1:20 left during the Divisional Championships against Indianapolis. Ben Roethlisberger's big game saving tackle and a fail 46 yard field goal attempt by Mike Vanderjagt put in motion the destined Superbowl XL victory but Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Superbowl XL started just the way the Seattle Seahawks would have liked. Seattle was able to move the ball seemingly at will against a confused Pittsburgh defense. As the first half moved on it looked like Seattle was in control of Superbowl XL but were unable to punch in the ball an numerous different plays.

Seattle fans may believe the game would have ended differently if not for a few controversial calls which went against Seattle. The first call came late in the first quarter when Hasselbeck tossed a 16 yard touchdown pass to Jackson which was called back on a very questionable offensive pass interference penalty.

The second play came in the middle of the second quarter when Ben Roethlisberger dove to the endzone on a 3 and 1 on the Seattle 1 yard line. The replay did not conclusively show if the ball did or did not break plain of the goal line. Once the replay failed to conclusively disprove the touchdown, the play on the field was not over turned.

Another call came in the fourth quarter when Hasselbeck hooked up with Stevens with a pass to the Pittsburgh one yard line only to have the play called back on an obscure offensive holding call.

In a sentimental moment, Jerome Bettis declared after the game that he was going to retire a champion. The Bus as he has been affectionately called by friends and fans alike won his first Superbowl in a storied career, in his home town of Detroit.

Ben Roethlisberger became the youngest quarterback in NFL history to win the Superbowl and the Steelers become only the third team to win 5 NFL titles.

Super Bowl XXXIX 2004 - 2005 hosted by Jacksonville Florida.
The Rolling Stones were a wonderful choice following another classic rocker Paul McCartney from last year. The Rolling Stones, considered to be the best rock band of all time performed masterfully and left the Superbowl fans young and old happy and excited.
